September is an important month for us at BAMF Health—it’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a period of time where we can reflect on the positive impact medical advancements are having on the lives of men with prostate cancer around the world, but it’s also a time to consider what more can be done.

The Truth About Prostate Cancer

1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. It’s a sobering statistic. It impacts our fathers, grandfathers, brothers, husbands, and sons. It’s our friends, cousins, uncles, and coworkers. And as anyone whose loved one has battled cancer knows, the patient isn’t the only one who’s impacted. It’s felt by everyone in a patient’s orbit.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men in the U.S., with the American Cancer Society predicting about 313,780 new cases in 2025. About 6 in 10 prostate cancers are diagnosed in men 65+, and the average age of diagnosis is 67.

But what do you do when you receive a diagnosis? What’s the first step? What treatments should you consider? And what new advances are available? These are questions men and their families face every single day. We believe that not only should the answers to those questions be more readily available, but doctors need to be aware of the latest developments, too. And be open to discussing them.

BAMF Health 108 Walk

That’s why the BAMF Health team is committing to walking 108 miles during the month of September. And as we do, we’ll be educating the community along the way. We’ll share advice about diagnosis, imaging, treatments, and clinical trials. We’ll share insights about the latest advances and offer encouragement and support to those on this journey.

We’re also calling on each of you—individually or as a group—to join us!

How to participate

  • Form a group: Gather your friends, colleagues, or family members and walk a combined total of 108 miles in September
  • Walk solo: Go big and commit to walking all 108 miles yourself; it’s about 3.6 miles a day
  • Join a BAMF community walk: we’re hosting three community walks to help you reach your goal. They begin and end at BAMF Health and will be approximately 3.3 miles. In the event of severe weather, we will cancel that day’s walk.
    • Thursday, September 11th at 4pm
    • Thursday, September 18th at 4pm
    • Thursday, September 25th at 4pm

BAMFers will sport their BAMF gear during the walks, and you can too! You can find and purchase branded swag on the Mitten State website. And bonus! Proceeds from the sales go directly to our Foundation to further support cancer education, access, and research.

The Impact

We want the West Michigan community to know more about prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment, and with your help, we can do just that.

Throughout the month of September, share your 108 Walk experiences and your “why” on social media using the hashtag #BAMF108Walk. Our team will do the same. We might even feature you and/or your group on our channels!

Remember, we’re doing this for the men in our lives whom we love. We want them to get their PSA test annually, find cancer early, attack it quickly, and get back to doing the things they love with the people they cherish.

If you have any questions or would like to let us know that you’re participating, email: marketing@bamfhealth.com. We hope to see you at our first community walk on September 11th!
